Cycling in Scotland (1/2)

In August, 2005, Clare and I went cycling in Scotland, from Glasgow to Dunnet Head (with a wee trainride in the middle). We got lost only once.

Me, at the beginning.
Clare, at the beginning.
"The World's Firszt 'Sail Thru' Fish & Chip Take Away". Cute.
A map of the cycle network.
Our first campground, complete with bagpipers and drummers.
Clare, ready for bed.
Loch Lomond, I think. Most of the Lochs are very narrow.
Some canoeists
Terrain
Across the loch, you could see all the little streams. That's mostly planted forestry, IIRC.
Flowers
Sheepies!
A jet. Turned out we were near some military base, I think.
When we followed the path, there were these signs every little while that talked about the next stretch, and some history. Nice, and unexpected.
That was steep.
Flower, lake.
Look closely...that sign is funny.
Me, skipping rocks on Loch Ness. I was depressingly unsuccessful.
Clare, hiding from the midges at Loch Ness
A lone piper.
Oh my! This guy was German. He had been in Edinburgh (I think) for some attempt to set the record for the most musicians together in a single place. He was pretty good, and told some good stories.
There was also this Scottish guy, who seemed insecure about a good German Bagpiper being in the room. I had joked about there only being room for one bagpiper at that campground, but I was wrong, as you can see them playing together here.
Moon over Loch Ness. (Everything's dramatic with Loch Ness)

(♪"There's a..."♪) latrine in the corner of a nook in the castle at Urquhart
View from the castle, over Loch Ness
Me. Castle. Loch Ness.
Overview. Very big castle grounds.
That's the whole thing. It seemed really big at the time, though I'm pretty sure Cardiff Castle is a lot bigger and similarly old.
More overview.
Leaving Loch Ness.
Little wooden man, plus grass-roofed house. Some kind of hippy community center thingy.
The little blue signs were the ones we were following. I think this photo was about the dramatic weather that was coming in overhead. It looks nice, though. Looks like Saskatchewan, minus sign-style and hills in background. :-)
Hah. Silly sign in the middle of Scotland, you're so confused. (I think it was actually pointing roughly towards Dublin, but Dublin means roughly "Black Pool" in Irish Gaelic, and Scottish gaelic is similar, so it's not that unlikely of a name.
A view from some viewpoint. This is after Inverness now. We were quite high.
The jokes just write themselves.
We stopped in a little church to shelter from the rain. It was neat, with books you could borrow and post back on trust.
