Greece - Santorini (1/1)

Santorini is a ring of small volcanic islands, one of which is still active. Cool views of layered ash and steamy magma vents.

"Where should we build the city, Alexandros?" "Why not hanging precariously on a cliff, Augustus?"

Fira, I think.

Clare in Oia
Hello Santorini!
Oia was very cute
There were lots of stray cats and dogs. They all seemed pretty nonviolent, and nonannoying.
Oia harbour. Had to descend ~150 long treacherous steps to get there. Or take the road.
Me in Clare's sunglasses
Ancient remains of some kind of couscous like dish
Evening sunshine makes even the most leftover of leftovers look tasty.
They used a lot of olive oil in their cooking.
This ship was not going uphill, but there was a strange illusion that it was.
Lens flare!!
Cookies and cream icecream, or 3500 year old ash from earth shattering, culture changing volcanic explosion? You be the judge.
We hung out with these people. They were on various exchange programs. Leftmost dude was a Canuck named "Rob," whodathunk. Two gals were Finnish, then two Germans and a tall Swiss guy. All very friendly.
Volcanic rock. Made from molten hot mag-ma.
Steam (from the molten hot mag-ma ~3km below the surface)
Geology (?) students collecting samples of the crystalized sulfurs
Looking across a crater
Moonscape
Weather station (plus crazies going barefoot on sharp volcanic rocks.)
Little town on second island
Cactus with cactus fruit. And in case the cactus spines don't deter you, also barbed wire.
Three little islands.
