Julia and Denny in Costa Rica (1/1)

Spiders, flowers, ziplining, oh my!

This was our first night's accomodation, in Alajuela. The room was taller than it was wide, a la cereal box.
We shared a jeepride with a Costa Rican family. Here's Denny helping unload their mystery sacs.
That's Volcan Arenal in the back. It's active. Molten magma inside.
I'm much bigger than this teensy waterfall.
Denny is much smaller than this giant waterfall. It was about 400 slippery mudsteps to get down into this canyon.
This guy is called a coati. He has a rat tail, but we liked him anyway.
We've got jungle fever!
Suspension bridge tour. Fear of heights only moderately troublesome.
Crabbety crab. He was *very* cute, sneaking away sideways with his dukes up.
These lizards are about 6 inches (15 cm) long with blue tails. They were abundant in the jungle.
We rented a scooter.
This was our best view of the volcano. It clouded over at night, so we didn't get to actually see the glow. It's supposed to be pretty fancy though..
Pre-canopy ziplining. Fear of heights more troublesome...
Denny ziplining. It was quite fun, like a bird. Our guides didn't speak english. They taught me that the word for scared is 'miedo'.
Awww....romantic.
Here's our front porch in Puerto Viejo (Southern Caribbean coast)
This spider is about 4 inches (10 cm) in diameter. I got one on me, and made a squeal the likes of which I have never made before.
We hiked down to within about 5 km of Panama. This beach is natural, wild. We snorkeled here and it was awesome.
The hike was indeed muddy. My foot is stuck here, and I fear for my shoe.
Mmmm... gooey.
The surfers were abundant. We tried surfing. It's difficult, and you get a lot of water up your nose.
This was on our last night. We found a very good swimming beach in Cahuita National Park.
These flowers were everywhere. Hibiscus, says mum.
This is the screen of an ATM in Minneapolis airport. We'd like to know what "Hmoob" is, if any of you speak this language, please let us know.
Denny grew his *very* first beard. He's very Juan Carlos now.
