pBrain

Qu'est-ce que c'est?

pBrain is a collaborative learning system. At it's simplest level, it's web-based flash cards. Of course, putting flash cards into a database and onto the web lets you do some interesting things.

Comme quoi?

Well, for example, you can use other people's flash cards, so you don't have to do all the data entry yourself. And you can do the flash cards front-to-back or back-to-front at the flip of a button. And you can have the computer feed you the cards that you muck up most often, until you get them burned into that pea-brain of yours. (Now, of course, this project is made by me, for me, and maybe about me..)

Pourquoi?

I'm spending some time in Finland, and I need to learn Finnish. I need a system for this, and I like silly web-based projects.

Et le nom?

The system is written in a language called "PHP". It's traditional for PHP programs to start with the letter P. And "pea brain" is an English idiom for "stupid". Hence, pBrain, a clever pun, if I do say so myself.

Et puis apres?

Well, I'm just getting started. First, a website. Then a bit of code. We'll go from there.

Pardon?

"Me, I'm a Canadian living in Finland for a couple semesters. I'm doing a bachelors at the University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, and last night I saw a film from Quebec so I'm practicing my french a little bit. You can send me email at raewasch@uwaterloo.ca."
